Treatment Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the treatment last?

A typical session is 60 minutes in length. However, if the patient needs a little more care for a given ailment, Toshiro and Komei gives them the treatment length they need rather than ‘watch the clock’ or charge additional money.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting extremely thin needles into specific points of the body for the goal of healing. It can be used for the treatment of many ailments.

Do the needles hurt?

Unlike a standard needle, acupuncture needles are extremely thin (because they do not need to be hollow to allow for injecting). The patient may feel a slight prick sensation, often described as a feeling similar to a cat scratch.

Are the needles clean?

Yes. All needles for a given session are obtained from a sterile pack. At the end of the treatment, these needles are disposed of in a sharps bin.

What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion Technique is the application of heat to an acupuncture point. The patient feels a warm sensation, often ‘tingly’. This warming of the acupuncture point serves to aid the effects of the treatment, working on a deeper level.

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese ‘hands-on’ pressure massage treatment. There are various styles of Shiatsu, and Toshiro’s style has evolved to take on a combination of Zen and Namikoshi techniques.

What ailments can a treatment aid with?

These complimentary therapies can aid with most ailments, so please phone to discuss your illness or symptoms. Whilst not a complete list, the most common ailments include:

Pain relief (including back problems such as Sciatica)

          Stress

          Headaches and Migraine

          Hayfever

How many treatments will I require?

This depends entirely on the condition being treated, and its response to treatment. Unlike other disciplines, Iyashi Clinic’s approach is not to make you dependent on the treatment, rather to stabilise the condition. Generally this involves more regular visits initially, which then lessen as the condition improves, switching to a less frequent maintenance approach.

Can I give someone a treatment as a gift?

Yes, gift vouchers are available.
